140 Films was founded by Alistair Payne-James.

Prior to founding 140 Films, Alistair co-produced Kingdom of Us directed by Lucy Cohen (Netflix, Best Documentary - BFI LFF, Best Single Documentary - Grierson Awards and nominated for BAFTA Outstanding Debut for Director) and line produced across various projects including American Honey directed by Andrea Arnold (Cannes Jury Prize) and Arcade Fire: The Reflektor Tapes directed by Kahlil Joseph (TIFF). He has produced several short films including three with director Matt Houghton - Landline (Best Documentary Short - Grierson Awards and HBO Documentary Short Film Award - Provincetown), Hands Up, Chin Down (Sheffield Doc/Fest) and Dear Araucaria (Audience Award - Sheffield Doc/Fest).

Alistair has worked in short form content for fifteen years and produced commercials for brands including Nike, Sainsbury’s, Adidas, Cancer Research UK, BBC, TFL, 4Creative, Instagram and WaterWipes amongst others. Agencies he has worked with include Droga5, Adam and Eve DDB, Uncommon, BBH, VCCP and AMV BBDO. Shoot locations include Ukraine, Ireland, Portugal, France, Spain, Hungary and Argentina. 

In addition to film work, Alistair has done volunteer youth work with the charity Hackney Quest as well as mentoring with ScreenSkills, Creative Access and Creative Mentor Network.

He is now in development and production on three debut features.
